Street furniture (Lean Low, Lean High, Sit down)
glued laminated timber, uncoated
2022, Freispiel GmbH, Vienna
Location: Eisenstadt, Austria
Client: City of Eisenstadt
(in cooperation with DI Heinz Gerbl)
A new street furniture with identity and local reference.
Together with the reorganization of the Fanny-Elssler-Gasse open space, the elements represent the beginning of a process that attempts to give the city's important squares a new design quality and identity. With the help of a location analysis, which refers to the core areas of the state capital, a common foundation for a future location in the open space is to be laid. Potentials relevant to the cityscape (squares, streets, alleys, courtyards, green areas, etc.) should be worked on intensively and their genius loci should be taken up in the best possible way for the future.
The furnishing elements show for the first time the possibilities of Eisenstadt to appear as a city with its own open space planning profile. An approach that, on the one hand, takes into account the historical building structure, seizes potential and, on the other hand, tries to react to it with a bold, contemporary architectural language.
The furniture consists of uncoated, glued-laminated timber and screwed stainless steel tubes. The base is also made of glued-laminated wood, but due to the wine region made of wood like a barrique barrel, toasted twice. This is how modern street furniture is created with a bold architectural language from the context and the local color of the region.
