collection of armchairs and sofas with side tables
fabric/leather, foam, brass, marble, wood
2025, Kohlmaier Wien
Spherical forms, their fragmentation, and transformation are the central ideas of the project. The play with spheres, spherical segments, and spherical caps becomes the programmatic theme. We want to see round, plump, spherical shapes and bubbles back in contemporary design. This also requires the courage to take a step into the future by develop concepts and utopias, make them visible, and then translate them into reality.
A straight cut through the larger of the two spherical bodies creates a hemispherical seat cushion and a spherical cap as a backrest. The seat cushion appears to "float" above the floor and can be rotated by 360° in all directions thanks to a central rotating mechanism.
The second part, the backrest, is "leaned" against the seat and is invisibly connected. The smaller spherical body becomes an "armrest" and thanks to its asymmetrical position, also allows other unusual seating positions. A small table and a raised shelf expand the space available in this unusual piece of furniture.
The fact that the furniture is somewhat reminiscent of utopian furniture designs from the 1950s and 1960s is intentional, because we want to breathe attitude, humor, and radically utopian content back into the design, which has become somewhat boring.
